Kerala Government has made an excellent decision to ban certain plastic items in the state from September this year.

Kerala, like any other Indian state, is a vast garbage bin of plastic bags and wastage, and it would take a lot of dedicated effort from the authorities to cleanup the existing mess. If the government could really make sure that this ban is strictly enforced everywhere, that would be one of the best things it could do for us.

Helmet Rule

Yes. the implementation is an important part as also the public's sensitivity to such measures. The Helmet rule is a joke atleast in Allapuzha where people go about with a cap on their head and some with the helmet hanging from the handles of bikes with the police looking elsewhere.

Thanks,
Suraj

Plastic Bag Ban

Attn: ALL ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUS MEMBERS

Subject: Plastics Bag Ban - How to survive!!

Recently Government implemented the ban of usage of plastics bags with less than 30 micron film thickness all over Kerala. The purpose of this ban is to keep environment hygienically clean and safe for better health to us and for future generations.

Everybody knows that conventional plastics made from petroleum products are non compostable and hazardous to our health. It is a fact that – Today, it started only for 30 microns, Tomorrow we have to say NO to higher grade plastics bags. Time is not too late to go for alternate substainable environmentally friendly products like Biodegradable Plastics.
I would like to interact with plastic bag manufacturers who are interested to switch over to Biodegradable Plastics in place of conventional plastics. We have identified a product from aboard which is Biodegradable and compostable and accepted by following INTERNATIONAL STANDARDARDS such as:-

Europe standard EN 13432 certified by DIN CERTCO Germany

USA standard ASTM D 6400 certified by Biodegradable Products
Institute USA

Australian standard AS 4736 certified by PACIA

Japan ‘GreenPLa’ standard certified by Japan Bioplastics Association

At present I am under process of market survey to know the Environmental
ConsciousPplastics Bag Manufacturers who are keenly interested to go Biodegradable Plastics.

If anybody is interested to know more about this please feel free to contact us by email: ashrafcochin@yahoo.com .
