Ormakalude Kudamattom
Ormakalude Kudamattom is a collection of memoirs and articles by director Sathyan Anthikkad. Many of the memoirs are about various happenings during his film making, including interesting anecdotes about his interactions with Sreenivasan, Innocent, Mohanlal, Lohithadas and many others. His parents and family members appear in many articles and a few are about his childhood. There are a few articles that talk about general topics too. These articles have the beautiful simplicity, good humor and gentle "messages" that are trademarks of the director's films, and make a pleasant reading.
Most of Sathyan Anthikkad's works of the late 1980s and 1990s like Sandesham, Kudumbapuranam, Appunni, Thalayinamanthram, Nadodikkattu, Pattanapravesham, Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam, Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu and Varavelppu are among my favorite Malayalam films. Unfortunately, I feel that the quality of his films has been going down steadily since Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, which was made some 7-8 years back. I feel that he has run out of ideas and is becoming repetitive. But his articles tell us how sensitive he had been while picturizing many of the scenes in his recent films, which were close to his heart (like Kochu Thresya's visit to her village in Manassinakkare was inspired by his own mother's visit to her hometown).
