Manorama - Six Feet Under
Yesterday I watched this interesting Hindi film called Manorama - Six Feet Under.
Set in a desert village of Rajasthan, the film has Abhay Deol playing the main character of an engineer dismissed from service for accepting bribe. Earlier in his life, he had aspirations of becoming a writer, but Manorama, the only novel he wrote, was a failure. He considers his life as a failure. One fine day, a lady turns up at his door, asking him if he could play a detective in real life like the hero in his novel. He takes up the assignment, which was to watch the activities of the lady's husband, who is a state minister (played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Then the story goes through several twists and turns, taking the shape of a suspense thriller.
There are many unbelievable coincidences and loopholes in the film if we try to analyze its story in detail, but director Navdeep Singh has managed to narrate it in such a way to keep us engaged till the last scene. This is the first film of Abhay Deol I am watching, and I liked his performance which looked quite natural, devoid of any gimmicks. The background of landscapes of Rajasthan too have helped to make this film look different.
