My Years with Boss
My Years with Boss is a collection of six articles by Ashokamitran, remembering his days as an employee at Gemini Studios, which was "ruled" by SS Vasan, the "Boss". Even though the author had worked at Gemini from 1952 to 1966, the memoirs in the book are about a period of five years only, mainly narrating the interesting incidents associated with the making of Gemini films Avvaiyar, Bahut Din Huwe and Insaniyat. These articles were published in Illustrated Weekly of India in 1984, it seems. The most amusing article is the first one, describing how Rajaji went to watch Avvaiyar at a movie hall.
Ashokamitran's sense of humor and satirical narration style which I have seen earlier in his autobiographical works Mole! and Pathinettavathu Atchakkodu makes this too an interesting book to read.
