Yesterday I watched the Hindi movie "Lagaan". It is almost four hours long out of which more than one hour is dedicated to the climax cricket match. Story goes like this: The Raja of some state (I think Chempaneer) refuses to eat meat, and so the British asked the villagers to pay double tax. Later they challenge the villagers to beat them in Cricket. If they win, there will be no tax (Lagaan) , otherwise there will be triple tax. Amir Khan takes up the challenge, and of course , they win the match, thanks to the training given by the sister of the British general. Okay, so this is for the story. It is a nicely "engineered" movie, I will say, and all the actors have come up with very natural performances. A watchable movie, for once. I guess it will be a hit also, considering the craze for cricket among Indians. The cinema theatre was looking like a Cricket stadium, with the audience sometimes climbing to the platform and roaring and all that.
Today I saw the Malayalam movie "Pakshe..." directed by Mohan in Television. A good movie. Mohanlal excels in his role.
