Yesterday I watched Shonar Kella on DD Bangla and liked it. Soumitra Chatterjee was good, and Santosh Dutta as Jatayu was excellent and looked as straight out of the book. The scene in which Feluda and party, travelling on camels back in Rajasthan's desert, see the train passing in front of them - just few simple plain shots and some good music - is unforgettable. I wish to see the movie on big screen.
I had read in Andrew Robinson's book that yellow color was carefully avoided in the movie until the scene in which the Golden Fortress of Jaisalmer was shown for the first time, so that the scene would have an outstanding effect. But I was disappointed with this scene in the movie. The colors have all faded out from the film. Isn't it sad that Time takes away many of such charms that the film maker painstakingly developed in the movie?
