I watched the latest film version of The Count of Monte Cristo, directed by Kevin Reynolds. I feel any movie based on the novel, if made with some base level of sincerity, would be watchable. The latest movie version is just watchable for once, but that's all.
In Malayalam there are few novels with this property. Dharmaraja and Indulekha are two of them. But I think nobody has so far attempted to film these novels. Finding actors to match the personality of Haripanchananan, Patathalavan and Chanthrakkaran would be a major challenge for filming Dharmaraja, where as for Indulekha, it would be difficult to find an extremely beautiful actress with good acting skills to play the title role.
I am scared that some TV producer would make television serials out of these novels one day, with some comic casting.
